Volunteers

Volunteers are the backbone of the Shelter and we are always seeking people to help with fundraising, publicity, painting and carpentry, grooming cats, and many other areas. Volunteering is rewarding for both you and the cats! Please call the Shelter at (619) 561-0361 EXT 102 if you can help. You may also e-mail the Volunteer  Coordinator  by clicking on the link.

Youth Volunteerism and Service Learning is a way for Friends of Cats to reach out to today's youth, which will be the future backbone of animal welfare. Friends of Cats has a new Youth Volunteer Coordinator, Ali Morgan, who has volunteered at Friends of Cats herself for some time. Ali is a high school student and will be able to help other teens, tweens, and young adults to decide how best their volunteer hours should be spent. Ali will direct towards offsite event volunteering, in shelter volunteering, outreach and a variety of other areas. Ali will hold a monthly youth volunteer orientation for 12-18 years old, to offer the volunteer opportunities, volunteer rules, and a welcome to the organization.

Ali can be contacted at alicat_yvc@friendsofcats.org

Volunteer hours can be performed at your leisure, and also for school hours. To qualify for school hours at Friends of Cats, you must present 2 letters of recommendation, one letter from a school official, and one from a personal reference from an adult who is not a family member. When volunteering at Friends of Cats, the most important thing is a love of cats. The cats enjoy being petted, receiving affection, and being played with.

Here at Friends of Cats, we are always in need of help for building, maintenance, and upkeep. Please feel free to volunteer to help with some of the more difficult chores, if you feel up to it!

Friends of cats no longer accepts volunteers who need to perform hours for court ordered community service. If you have any questions regarding this policy, please call our office at 619-561-0361 ext 102.

Friends of Cats also needs volunteers on a continual basis with the following tasks. To be assigned to one of the following positions, volunteers must commit to a specified number of days per week to volunteer.

Kennel Assistant: Help clean and sanitize the rooms, litter boxes, and wash walls and windows when needed.

Cat Bather/Groomer: This position involves bathing and grooming the cats sop that they feel good, look good and are ready to go home. This position requires proof of experience and placement is at the discretion of our medical staff.

Web Support/ Web Photographer: Various computer oriented duties to advertise adoptable cats, keep our website updated, and help maintain our page on www.adoptapet.com

Door Greeter: Greeting and directing visitors at the shelter. Help visitors find a new kitty or inquire about surrendering one. Help visitors  find out about the various volunteer opportunities available at Friends of Cats.

Public Events: Enjoy talking to the public? We are looking for people to help with public adoption events, public appearances at cat shows, and helping to set-up and tear down event tents and equipment.
